About Vending Business 101

Vending got smarter. Your start should too.

Vending Business 101 isn’t a get-rich-quick channel or a faceless course mill. It’s a complete operator system for the AI Smart Cooler era — honest numbers, a step-by-step playbook, and a national network — so your first machine is a calculated move, not a leap of faith.

Our story

Built by operators, not marketers.

Vending Business 101 grew out of two decades of running real routes — 2006 through 2024 — across every era of the industry: coin mechs, card readers, telemetry, micro markets, and finally AI Smart Coolers.

In 2024 the route was sold and this became a full-time education company. Every checklist, calculator, and playbook in the Program comes from lessons paid for in the field — overpriced machines, dead locations, and the wrong products on the wrong shelves.

But the Program isn’t about any one operator’s story. It’s about where the industry is going — and handing the next operator a system built for it, on day one.

Every decade the machines got smarter. The playbook for new operators never did — until now.

How vending got smart

Every decade, the machine got smarter.

1990s

The cash-only era peaks

Bill validators and early magstripe experiments hint at what’s coming, but vending still lives and dies on exact change and coin mechs.

Early 2000s

Cashless arrives

Credit-card readers built on the MDB standard — led by systems like USA Technologies’ ePort — hit machines. Sales stop depending on the change in someone’s pocket.

Mid-2000s

Machines get connected

Telemetry and DEX data go mainstream: machines report their own sales and stock levels, and operators stop driving routes blind.

2009

The micro market is born

The first Avanti Market opens in a Seattle break room — open shelves, coolers, and a self-checkout kiosk. Fresh food escapes the snack spiral.

2010s

Data runs the warehouse

Pre-kitting becomes the standard: restocks are picked in advance from live sales data instead of guessed at the machine. Mobile wallets push cashless past cash.

2018

Grab-and-go is proven

Computer-vision checkout goes mainstream in walk-in stores — and the same technology starts shrinking down to fit inside a single cooler.

2020s

The AI Smart Cooler era

Tap-grab-go coolers with computer vision and weight sensors sell fresh and frozen food with no jams, no cash, and live inventory. This is the category the Program trains operators for.

What we stand for

Operator-first, always.

Honesty over hype

Real ranges, real risks, real disclaimers. If a location looks thin, our tools will tell you to walk away — we’d rather lose a sale than oversell a spot that won’t perform.

Systems over luck

Pick right, fund right, run right. A repeatable system turns a $3,000+ decision into a confident, calculated move instead of a gamble.

Community over going alone

The fix for rookie mistakes isn’t grit — it’s a network of operators and a 20-year playbook, so nobody learns at full price twice.

Why this Program exists

Smart Coolers aren’t vending machines — and that changes everything.

The old vending playbooks were written for coin mechs, snack spirals, and cash routes. A modern AI cooler is a different business — and that’s exactly the gap this Program was built to close.

    Traditional vending machine
  • Cash-first, prone to jams and theft
  • Limited to snack spirals and cans
  • Restock by guesswork
  • Old playbooks, outdated advice
    AI Smart Cooler
  • Tap-grab-go payments, no jams
  • Fresh food, drinks, and frozen options
  • Live inventory and sales data
  • A modern system built for the category
What we’ll never do

Our promises to every operator.

No income promises, ever — estimates are honest ranges from your inputs and industry data, not predictions.
No dream-selling — the machine is the easy part, and we’ll tell you exactly which parts are hard.
No pressure — the calculator, the scoring, and the first look are free, with no credit card.
No bad-fit sales — if the numbers say walk away, that’s what we’ll tell you.
